About the Workshop:
The participant will rediscover how to “see” as an artist does and practice the skills necessary to paint an aesthetically pleasing work of art. The artist can use their medium of choice: oil, acrylic, watercolour, charcoal. The instructor may paint with oil, watercolour, and charcoal.
This is a three-day workshop. Each day is focused on a set of key learnings.
Participation is limited so book early!
Day One: What is beauty, part 1
Key Learnings:
Aesthetics for artists.
Design fundamentals; Intent, Picture Plane, Value, Shapes, Greyscale and more
Studio safety and materials
Product:
a monotone painting of participant source material.
Day Two: What is beauty, part 2
Key Learnings:
The elements of Beauty are at the tip of your brush.
Managing the outcome: palettes, light and form, push/pull, temperature, greys, simultaneous contrast, edges, complimentary colours and more.
Digital tools in the studio, studio lighting
Product:
a colour painting of participant source material.
Day Three: What is beauty, part 3
Key Learnings:
Critiquing your work: its aesthetically pleasing because?
Restating, rework for a better outcome.
Critique method.
Product:
a critique of artist’s work
a monotone or colour painting of source material.
Skill level: Intermediate to advanced. Beginners may find the content difficult.
Materials to Bring: sketch book and drawing materials, paint/brushes/paper towel, 12x16 surfaces (canvas, boards, paper), source photos, easel
Material Supplied: table with drop cloth
Source Material: participant owned material such as photographs or objects, Ipad or phone accessible with photo editor if possible
Course Documents: some background documentation will be emailed to registered participants.
Cost: You may register for 1,2 or all 3 days. Cost for individual course is $100 or $250 if you register for all three.
